Adam Portraiture Award
I’m delighted to have a portrait selected as a finalist for the 2026 Adam Portraiture Award. “The Gardeners” depicts dedicated gardener, Tricia, in her authentic happy place – the glasshouse. She is accompanied by her constant helper, Bruno, whose devotion to the task is interrupted only by fastmoving distractions and frequent naps. For this painting in oils, I have applied some inspiration from the heightened lighting contrasts that a number of Old Masters explored in the 17th Century. The Adam Portraiture Award finalists are on display at the New Zealand Portrait Gallery from May 2026.
