Caravaggio’s “Judith Beheading Holofernes” from 1599 is shocking – a masterpiece of light, composition and violence. I was curious how this composition might translate into a modern domestic context. I find the result is still a shock, a moment of outrage. A scene of bathos may have replaced the blood and blade, but violence still lurks in the heart.
