With Pilgrimage I wanted to have a little fun with the religious fervour of the Rugby World Cup. I’ve taken a Madonna-and-child pose typical of the 16th and 17th Century, and brought rugby itself in as the Divine, while the Madonna takes on a Kiwi identity. Three wise “fans” arrive from afar bearing gifts…
